Media Collections at Wells Library & ALF

Digital Streaming Titles

Established in 2008, this multidisciplinary collection contains over 1,100 digital files licensed for the IUB community.  The largest group of titles are those made available from the Film Media Group Health Collection.  Digital files can be linked to OnCourse, and E-Reserve.  CAS authentication required.  Ask our friendly staff about access to other multimedia databases such as Dance in Video, Ethnographic Video Online, and World History in Video.

Teaching and Research Collection  (closed stacks)

The Teaching and Research collection includes access to the Instructional Support Services and David A. Bradley Film collections, which are currently housed at the Auxiliary Library Facility (ALF).   Established in 1975, this multidisciplinary collection supports the broad range of study and research at IU from the undergraduate through post-doctorate level.  The collection contains over 6,000 VHS tapes and about 5,500 DVDs.  Also included are nearly 2,000 spoken-word audiocassettes and CDs covering a broad range of topics.   We have a small collection of multimedia CD-ROMs, listed here: multi-media CD-ROMs. The Teaching and Research Collection circulates to faculty and instructors for seven days. Items may be renewed once upon request, by calling 855-1650 or emailing   Students may also check out recordings for 24 hours for class projects.  All media can be watched in-house during normal business hours.  In combination with our popular, highly circulating Media Browsing Collection, Media & Reserve Services offers its patrons access to over 18,500 VHS tapes, and over 14,000 DVDs.  Lists of feature films by language/country of origin and by specific topics are available here.

Media Browsing Collection  (open stacks)

Established in 2001 through the generous donation of Jerry and Phyllis McCullough, former owners of Bloomington's Classical Film and Music, the Browsing collection includes an eclectic mix of feature films in English and foreign languages, as well  as documentary films.   The feature film browsing collection includes nearly 9,500 VHS tapes, over 3,000 DVDs, and a small number of audiobookslanguage learning tapes and CDs, and videogames.  The documentary browsing collection includes over 3,000 VHS tapes and DVDs.  Multimedia items can be checked out to all Indiana residents with a valid IU ID card or Borrower's card.   Patrons may borrow up to three items (mix and match), or one TV Series set for seven days.  All audio recordings circulate for 14 days. Items can be renewed once (in person, 855-1650, or through IUCAT). Overdue fines are $1.00 per day per item.  Due to the heavy use of materials located in the Media Browsing Collection, these items are not available for Hold, Recall, or request delivery via Interlibrary Loan.
