Making Photocopies

Users may make copies of print articles and pages from printed books using photocopiers or scanners.  The Wells Library has a significant number of scanners for this purpose.  There is no charge for using scanners, but there is a fee to make photocopies.

Herman B Wells Library:

Copy machines in the Wells Library are located on the 2nd and the 9th floors of the East Tower.  There are 3 machines in the middle of the 2nd floor, between the collections of the Government Information, Maps and Microform Services and the offices of the Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL).  The copy machine on the 9th floor is located near the elevators.

You must use either your Campus Access Card to pay for copies or purchase a Copy Card.  Each of these cards works as a debit card.  Copy machines in the Wells Library do not accept cash or credit cards.

Visitors may purchase a special reloadable Copy Card from a machine located in the Herman B Wells Library on the ground floor near the Cyber Cafe. The cost for a Copy Card is $1.00 and additional funds for copying must be added to that amount. The machine will subtract the card fee from the money inserted.

Costs for copies

8 1/2 x 11 black & white copies and 8 1/2 x 14 black & white copies
10 cents per page

The Libraries recommend that users scan materials they would like to keep and either send the scanned documents to themselves via email or download them to a portable "flash" or "thumb" drive.  There is no charge for scanning.   Portable drives can be purchased at the main East Tower circulation desk located on the second floor.  During overnight hours, when the East Tower is closed, portable drives can be purchased in the West Tower.

The East Tower has 9 scanners located on the first floor.  The E-Scan machine is located near the New Books shelves.   Eight standard scanners are located in a special scanning area near the IU History collection. Scanners will be moved to the Reference Reading Room during the East Tower renovation beginning in December 2013.

Branch Libraries:

Most branch libraries have photocopy machines.  Copies can be made using the Campus Access Card or cash.  Most machines that accept cash also make change.

Visitors may purchase a Copy Card that will work as a debit card in the same way  as a Campus Access Card.  These can be purchased from a machine located in the Herman B Wells Library on the ground floor near the cafeteria. The cost for a Copy Card is $1.00 and additional funds for copying must be added to that amount. The machine will subtract the card fee from the money inserted.   Copy Cards may also be purchased  at the Copies and More stores located in the Indiana Memorial Union and Eigenmann Hall.

Costs for copies differ for card and cash users.
