Books By Mail

How to Have Library Books Delivered to Your Office:


The IUB Libraries are pleased to offer a service for IU Bloomington faculty where we deliver books to campus mail addresses. If you are interested in having books delivered to you, please follow the following steps:

Step 1: Contact the Access Services Department of the Wells Library at libcirc@indiana.edu or 855-4673 and tell them that you want to set up an account for office campus mail delivery. This service is available only to faculty at this time.

Step 2: Connect to IUCAT.

 

Step 3: Search for the item you want. You may request materials from the Wells Library or any other library in Bloomington or in the IU system (including the regional campuses and professional schools). We suggest that you use the All IU Libraries library search limit, for best results. The Lilly Library, Kinsey Library, Archives of Traditional Music, and the Halls of Residence Libraries do not participate in Request Delivery. There are also a few collections in various libraries whose loan lengths do not allow for them to be delivered.  Items in the ALF (Auxiliary Library Facility) should be requested differently; see details below.

 

Step 4: When you find the item you want, go to the bibliographic record description.   This is the screen where you see the library shelving location and call number.   When you are viewing a list of books, click the title link for the item you want, to get to the record description screen. If the title is eligible for delivery, you will see a red button that says "Request Delivery" on the right side of the screen.   Click on that button.

 

Step 5: You will be prompted to log in.  Select the IU Login button.  Type your username and password, just as you log in to Oncourse and OneStart.


Step 6:   You will be prompted to select a library to which you want the item delivered. (Yes, this is a little confusing. The fact that you are logged in as your office is what triggers the item to be delivered). While it does not really matter which library you choose for this to work, things will be quicker if you choose the IUB campus library that owns the book you are requesting. If you are unsure, just choose Wells.

 

Step 7: You will be prompted to choose the account to which the book will be checked out.  Choose Office Delivery - [Your Name].

Step 8: You will get a confirmation that your request went through.   When the item is received in the library, it will be mailed to your campus mail address. 

 

How to Get ALF (Auxiliary Library Facility) Books Delivered to Your Office:

 

Do not use the current version of IUCAT to request delivery of ALF items to your office.  There is no way to select your office account and using Request Delivery will slow them in reaching you by at least a day.

 

Instead, use IUCAT Classic (the older version of IUCAT).  When you log in to IUCAT Classic, you will be asked to choose between your personal account, faculty study (if you have one), one or more proxies (if you have any) or your office account -- CHOOSE YOUR OFFICE.  You will then be taken to the front IUCAT search screen. Search for the book.

 

If the title you want is held in the B-ALF Library (Auxiliary Library Facility), DO NOT CLICK on the button for Request Delivery.  Instead scroll down to find the "Request this ALF item" link next to the item you want.

 

Select the Wells Library as the "pickup library."  When the item is received at Wells, it will be mailed to your campus mail address.

 

Important Tips:

 

Renew Books:  The list of items checked out to you includes those delivered to your office via campus mail separately as part of your office delivery account.  Log in to My Account and scroll down to view them.   If you are using IUCAT Classic, log in as your Office Delivery account to renew them.

 

Renew Your Office Account Annually: Accounts are set up for one year and must be renewed annually.  Send an email to libcirc@indiana.edu.  Include your IU username and the original office barcode number sent to you via email, if you still have it.
 

Please note that we are using campus mail to deliver these items. If you need a book quickly, we suggest you log in on your personal account and choose a library where you will be able to pick up the book.

YOU MUST COMPLETE THE REQUEST PROCESS FOR EACH BOOK YOU WANT (Steps 3-7). It will not work to mark multiple books and then complete the Request Delivery step for one of the books on the list.

Items NOT eligible for Request Delivery are these:  electronic books, books checked out to another user for which there is no other copy in the IU system, materials on reserve, in the Lilly or Kinsey Libraries, in the Core Collection at the Wells Library, the Residential Programs & Services Libraries in the residence halls, or in the Reference collection, and most journal bound volumes.  Most DVD's may not be requested due to their short loan lengths.  Request DVD's via interlibrary loan.
