Q299: Job Strategies for Liberal Arts Students
Career research is an important part of finding a job. Unlike many other majors, liberal arts majors do not have a defined career track. Doing some background research on various jobs, industries or companies can help you decide on a career. This career guide will connect you to some of the resources available to you at IUB.
Career Research
The first step in finding a great job or internship is to research various careers. Researching careers will allow you to learn more about different career opportunities and help you choose a career that suits your skills and interest. To learn more about various careers use these resources:
Occupational Outlook Handbook
This resource is published by the U.S. Department of Labor. It provides descriptions of hundreds of jobs with the employment outlook for the next decade. This is a great resource to use to find out what careers will be in demand in the future. In addition to the online resource, we also have a copy of the handbook in print in the Career Reference section in the Information Commons. The call number is HF5381.A1 O15.
