P215: Basic Human Physiology

Encyclopedia Assignment

Due: Lab 3

 

Instructions:

  • Write the correct bibliographical citation for your source.  AccessScience articles give the appropriate citation format in the article.
  • Write your original question and the two additional questions from your Textbook Assignment.
  • Beneath each question, summarize the answer your source gives for each question.  Do not plagiarize your source and do not use direct quotes.
  • Include any information you found particularly interesting but did not pertain to the questions you stated above.
  • Write a fourth physiology question about your topic you would like to find the answer to.
  • Attach your Textbook Assignment to the back of this assignment before turning it in.
     

Potential Sources for the Encyclopedia Assignment:

Online encyclopedias accessible from the Life Sciences Library web page including:

MedlinePlus may be a good source.  It brings together authoritative information from the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations to provide consumer health information.

 

Encyclopedias and reference works from Springer.

 

Any encyclopedia available at the Life Sciences Library or Public Health Library (formerly HPER Library).  Search IUCAT for these or visit those libraries.

 

While it may be useful in exploring your topic, Wikipedia is NOT AN ACCEPTABLE SOURCE to cite for this assignment. If you find good information in Wikipedia, it is because it came from someplace else. 

 

Magazine/Newspaper Assignment

Due: Lab 5

 

Instructions:

  • Find an article that answers your questions
  • Write the correct bibliographical citation for your source.
  • Write the four questions you discussed in your Encyclopedia Assignment.
  • Beneath each question, summarize the answer your source gives for each question.  Do not plagiarize your source and do not use direct quotes.
  • Include any information you found particularly interesting but did not pertain to the questions you stated above.
  • Write a fifth physiology question about your topic you would like to find the answer to.
  • Attach your previous two assignments to the back of this assignment before turning it in.
