Current Awareness Options

DATABASES:

Web of Science

ISI allows you to set up a personal account. With your personal account you can save search results and searches and set up alerts for searches, tables of content, and citations (an alerts for each time a specified article is cited). For detailed instruction, see Journal & Search Alert for ISI from IUB Libraries Reference Services.

PubMed

You can save your search and receive automated email updates of the search results with "My NCBI" account. The step-by-step instruction is outlined in the PubMed Help page.

Another option is to use PubCrawler, which is a free "alerting" service that scans daily updates to the NCBI Medline (PubMed) and GenBank databases.  PubCrawler helps keeping scientists informed of the current contents of Medline and GenBank, by listing new database entries that match their research interests.

JOURNALS:

Many publishers allow users to register for their email "alerting services". Some of these send registered users the table of contents (TOC) for each new journal issue as soon as it is available. Others maintain a user defined search profile, and run it regularly, e-mailing "hits" found in new publications.

Most publishers provide an on-line registration form for all of their journals. You simply choose the titles in which you're interested. However, some publishers may require that you register for each journal individually.

Elsevier - Science Direct

For journals published by Elsevier Science Publishers, you can sign up for either a search alert or a new issue alert or both. Tables of Contents Alerts allow you to receive the table of contents of any selected journal when a new issue is published online. Saved Search Alerts allow you to save your search and receive an alert whenever an article is published online that matches the search criteria. To receive these services, you need to setup a user profile (Login/Register).
