Scholars' Commons Series

Join us this semester for the inaugural Scholars’ Commons Fall Series! We have a full schedule of events ranging from basic introductions to core research tools, to workshops for dissertation writers, to talks by cutting edge digital scholars.

Our fall schedule features three tracks:

New at IU

If you are new to IU, these short sessions will help you get up to speed ASAP on the services and resources the IUB Libraries offer. We’ll also use this series to introduce exciting resources that are new at IU. This semester we focus on two crucial tools, the Libraries online catalog, IUCAT (completely new interface this year!) and OneSearch, a powerful meta-search engine that will save you time and energy.

Surviving and Thriving in Academia

Don’t let yourself be overwhelmed by life in the academic fast track! These 90-minute and half-day workshops are designed to help you work smarter, not harder. This semester’s topics include developing good note-taking habits and a daily writing practice, designing better research assignments for your students, managing your social media presence, getting a strong start on your dissertation, and more.

Digital Initiatives

The world of digital scholarship is exciting and ever evolving. We are privileged to have many leading experts in the field here at  IU.  As research initiatives increasingly rely on technology as a significant mode for inquiry, the Digital Initiatives series will address cutting-edge and emerging topics that shape this new scholarly endeavor.  Join us this semester to learn more about computational analysis, topic modeling, open-access publishing, metadata, digital preservation and more.
