Sources for Africa Studies

Best places to begin for documents and government information

IUCAT http://www.iucat.iu.edu  Most foreign documents, i.e. documents from national level documents because the U.S. are cataloged.  While we still have probably 5,000 documents to be cataloged, many of these are rather unique.  Feel free to discuss you project in case we would have materials uncataloged that you might need.  Remember also to use Interlibrary Loan to borrow materials we do not own.    WorldCat http://www.libraries.iub.edu/scripts/countResources.php?resourceId=38599  can be helpful in both identifying unique foreign documents but also on requesting materials from ILL.

Green Box Country Pages: Country by country bibliography and links to most important government sources.  This includes both individual country documents but also documents from IGOs.

International Statistical Data Sources

Maps

Uncataloged maps are still arranged by AGS (American Geographic Society) area codes i.e.

300 Africa General, 303 Africa Central, 305 Africa East, etc.   These are NOT in IUCAT

Cataloged maps which are listed in IUCAT may be browsed in cabinets covering G8300-G8400
