FAQ

How to Access the IQ-Wall

1. How do I get permission to log on to the IQ-Wall? Attend one of the monthly orientation sessions. For the Spring 2013 semester, the orientation sessions will be held at the IQ-Wall the last Thursday of every month from 11 am to 12 pm. These sessions are open to all IU students, faculty and staff. Alternately, you may schedule a one-on-one or special group orientation at your convenience. Email wells-iq-wall-l@indiana.edu to schedule an orientation or for more information.

2. Do I need to reserve the IQ-Wall? We highly encourage you to reserve the IQ-Wall in advance. This will guarantee uninterrupted usage. To reserve the IQ-Wall, you need to have attended an orientation session. Email wells-iq-wall-l@indiana.edu and we can either reserve the Wall on your behalf or, if you prefer, give you access to directly reserve the IQ-Wall using the Google Calendar if you have a gmail account. If your perfer the latter, be sure to send along your gmail account information so we can give you access.

3. Are there use restrictions for the Wall? IQ-Wall use is limited to current students, facutly and staff at Indiana University for research, teaching and learning activities and initiatives.  Consult the IUB Libraries' IQ-Wall Policies for Use for additional information.  We also encourage you to review the IQ-Wall Guidelines for Use.  Because of the Wall's location and high visibility, it is important you are aware of both the policies and guidelines of use in place for the IQ-Wall. If in doubt, email wells-iq-wall-l@indiana.edu for more information.

How-to Tips for the IQ-Wall

4. I am constructing a slideshow for the Wall. How big do my pictures need to be? We recommend that your pictures be 2000 pixels wide if the resolution of those images is 72 dpi (standard resolution for images formatted for the web). The recommended format for any images you may scan or create yourself is TIFF, since you can resize them at will in your powerpoint and not lose any information through compression. If this explanation seems too technical, please set up a meeting with us.

5. What browser works best on IQ-Wall computer? Google Chrome.

6. How do I enlarge a website so I can read the text better? CTRL+.

7. Is there any way to bump up the size of the URL bar and other navigation options? YES! Go to the "Windows" button at the bottom left of the screen; click on it. Choose "Control Panel" from the left hand column of options. Then choose "Display." Select "Custom" from the list of options, and finally choose "200%." This will bump up the size of everything on your screen. You will need to log off and log back on for changes to take effect, but from thereon in this will be your preset for this machine. If the font size is too large, try 150%.

8. I want to compare websites side-by-side. Remember that you can bring up new browser windows (you don't have to rely on tabbed browsing) and then can rearrange these windows all over the Wall. Be creative!)

9. I need sound! Speakers, a sub woofer, and headphones are located in a locked, black cabinet to the left of the Wall. Visit the Circulation Desk to check out the key that unlocks the cabinet. If you know ahead of time you will need sound and you are unfamiliar with connecting speakers to the machine, please contact wells-iq-wall-l@indiana.edu or libauto@indiana.edu.
