Physical Properties

These resources have chemical and physical properties for a variety of substances. Some of the properties available are listed for each resources. The Chemistry and other IUB Libraries staff will happily answer any questions you have about using these resources!


Online Resources:

  • Chemfinder: boiling point, chemical structure, density, flash point, melting point, molecular formula, molecular weight, refractive index, vapor density, vapor pressure
  • ChemIDPlus: atmospheric OH rate constant, boiling point, LogP, melting point, Henry’s Law Constant, pKa, vapor pressure, water solubility
  • ChemSpider: physical and experimental properties, spectra, structural representations and more
  • Landolt-Börnstein Substance / Property Index:  lists all substances and their properties which are reported on in the indexed Landolt-Börnstein volumes. In total, 160 000 organic and inorganic compounds are described by names, molecular structures, chemical abstract numbers and other identifiers
  • NIST Chemistry WebBook: gas and condensed phase properties, reaction thermochemistry, ion properties, constants of diatomics, spectra.
  • Physical Properties Sources Index (PPSI): lists recommended databases, handbooks, and websites (data, definition, measurement) for physico-chemical and other material properties.
  • Reaxys: more than 800 physical and chemical properties
  • SciFinder: boiling point, melting point, density, logD, logP, H acceptors/donors, molecular weight, optical rotary power, pKa, refractive index, solubility, and other properties for selected substances.
