ComAbstracts - about | terms of use - Abstracts articles from major professional journals in the fields of communications, mass media studies, journalism, public policy, and speech communication. This is a must for communications topics. Articles are scholarly and often represent the outcomes of large research projects. It is a useful resources for in-depth studies.

 

Communication and Mass Media Complete - about | terms of use - CMMC incorporates "CommSearch" and "Mass Media Articles Index" plus additional journals in the fields of communication and mass media, over 200 journals available in full-text. This is also a must. It is more varied than ComAbstracts.

 

Academic Search (EBSCO) - about | terms of use - Provides fulltext coverage of magazine, newspaper, and scholarly journals for almost every academic discipline. This is a current database, so you will be able to find recent articles here.

 

America: History & Life - about | terms of use - Covers the history of the United States and Canada from pre-history to the present, indexing more than 2000 journals published worldwide, dissertations and reviews. Coverage begins in 1964. This database is quite strong in the humanities and social sciences. You will find academic treatments of gaming and social media, and they are remarkably current.

 

Factiva - about | terms of use - General news and business information. International newswires and pictures, TV and radio transcripts. Company search for competitors, comparisons, SEC documents. This is a large database. For example, if you search in the simple search option for “social media” you will return thousands of articles. Using the subdivisions that appear on the left side of the screen will help you limit the number.

 

LexisNexis Academic - about | terms of use - Organized into 5 categories, LexisNexis includes articles from international newspapers, magazines, transcripts, legal research and medical journals. Similar to Factiva in its breadth, it also provides facets along the left of the screen.

 

Film & Television Literature Index Online - about | terms of use - A bibliographic database that provides access to nearly 700,000 citations to articles, film reviews and book reviews. This database also includes articles that discuss social media and gaming.

 

International Index to the Performing Arts - about | terms of use - A rich resource for the entertainment industry on all levels. There are many recent articles that treat gaming and social media.

 

If you want to explore the journals that are suggested on your assignment document, you can use the Libraries' Web page.  Type the journal name in the search bar at the top of the page (http://www.libraries.iub.edu/).  The first box in the results list "Online Research Tools at IUB" will give you a list of databases in which that journal is indexed.  At the bottom of the screen, the box labeled "Journal Titles" should give you a list of links to the journal online, and to IUCAT if you want to look at the print volumes.

Project Muse - about | terms of use - Includes nearly 250 quality journal titles from 40 scholarly publishers, in full-text.
