The Perseus Digital Library
Collection of Classical texts and reference works relating to Greek and Roman literature and history.

Academic Search (EBSCO)
Online index to journals and magazines on all topics. Use scholarly (peer reviewed) journals to limit your search results. Try the Visual Search if you'd like to see your results as a graph.

L'Année Philologique

Online index to over 1500 scholarly journals in Classics (also includes chapters in books). Includes materials in many languages--search results  can be limited to English.

Gnomon On-line
Similar to L'Année Philologique, but with coverage of some different journals, and a different search interface. Challenging to use because search interface is in German. Use the thesaurus to look up your author.

Tables of Contents of Journals of Interest to Classicists (TOCS-IN)
Online, searchable tables of contents of about 160 journals in Classics

ATLA Religion Database
Online index to scholarly journals in religious studies. This will be especially useful if your author is a Christian writer.

Periodicals Contents Index (PCI)

Online index to thousands of scholarly journals, including many Classics journals. Hint: select "Ancient Civilizations" as the subject area.

JSTOR
Digital archive of scholarly journals, including core journals in History and Classics (such as Journal of Roman Studies). Full text is searchable, so this could be a good resource to check for brief discussions of a topic on which you cannot find an entire article or book.

* * * *
Many of these sources link to full text of journal articles. If you find results without linked full text, use the "Find a specific article from a journal or newspaper" search form on the Online Full-Text Journals and Newspapers page to locate full text if available or hard copy.
