H105: American History I and II
Places to Start
Search IUCAT, the Indiana Universities library catalog, by keywords or subject headings, to find books and other materials in the IU Libraries.

Provides fulltext coverage of magazine, newspaper, and scholarly journals for almost every academic discipline.
Lexis-Nexis Academic provides full-text access and/or indexing and abstracting to information in a wide range of subject areas: general and political news from both US and non-US sources, corporate news and financial information, industry and market news, medicine and health, country profiles and federal and state law.
New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post
Use these digital archives of major newspapers to find the original coverage of important events, as well as opinions and views of the time. You can search by specific dates, or by keywords. If you use keywords, remember that you'll have to figure out what words would have been used at the time to describe the topic you're researching.
Readers Guide Retrospective 1890-1982
This is an online index to about 500 of the most widely-read American magazines. Search with keywords, using date limits to search only the years you're interested in. Another approach is to browse in the paper version of this resource (it's shelved in the Wells Library Research Collections, right across from the Reference Desk).
Periodicals Contents Index (PCI)
Use PCI to find out what academics were writing about in the time period you are studying.
