Faculty of 1000 is a literature awareness tool that highlights and reviews the most interesting papers published in the biological sciences, based on the recommendations of a faculty of well over 1000 selected leading researchers. These scientists provide a consensus map of the important papers and trends across biology and the life sciences. The major areas covered are biochemistry, bioinformatics, biotechnology, cell biology, chemical biology, developmental biology, evolutionary biology, genomics & genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, molecular medicine, neuroscience, plant biology, and structural biology. It highlights papers on the basis of their scientific merit rather than the journal in which they appear so is an alternative approach to ISI's Science Citation Index.
In addition to the standard search and browse features there is a 'Hidden Jewels' section featuring papers from lesser read journals and an e-mail alerting service in the 'My F1000" section.
