Locating and Listening to Audio Using Variations2 (Music Library)



Where is this service available?

Variations2, the Indiana University Digital Music Library
, is installed in the following places:

UITS Student Technology Center (STC) computers (Windows PCs and Macs) on the 1st and 3rd floors of the Cook Music Library and elsewhere on the Bloomington campus.
Computers in Jacobs School of Music classrooms: M015 (Sweeney Hall), M242, M263, M267, M271, M340, M344, M350, M356 and M373, and on all faculty office and studio computers.  If Variations2 is NOT installed on your faculty computer or is not working properly, please contact mustech@indiana.edu.

Variations2 is available for installation at home. Students will only have access to materials if they are currently in a class that has audio reserves or requires Variations2 use. For questions or problems with Variations2, please submit a detailed report using our support form.

How can I find online recordings?

Recordings in the Music Library's collection may be found by searching IUCAT, the online catalog of the Indiana University Libraries. Bibliographic records for sound recordings which are available online contain links to the online copy in Variations2.

How do I know if the recording I find is available online?

If you find a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) in the bibliographic record,the sound recording is available for listening online.

Once I find the URL, how do I listen to the recording?

  • Once you have found the recording you want to listen to in IUCAT, click on the URL field to go to the track listing for that recording.
  • From the tracks listing, click on the link for any track to begin listening.
