India Studies Collection Home Page
Our collection supports the India Studies Program. Interdisciplinary study for undergraduates about modern India is the focus of the curriculum. All students are encouraged to take Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, and/or Sanskrit language classes. Political science, religious studies, language, literature, economics, film, folklore, journalism, history, philosophy, theater, art, criminal justice, Near Eastern languages and cultures, Tibetan studies, and music are the primary academic interests of present India Studies faculty.English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, and Bengali materials are collected. The Hindi, Sanskrit, and Urdu literature, language, and linguistics collections are obtained primarily through a profile established with the Library of Congress's South Asia Cooperative Acquisitions Program (SACAP) in New Delhi. Bengali language materials are acquired selectively.
All formats are collected including e-books, dvds, and videos. Development in these areas is often accomplished through cooperation with collection managers in media, history, English, religious studies, political science, economics, theater and dance, folklore and other areas.
Graduate student and faculty interests are supported by membership in the South Asia Microform Project (SAMP), sponsored by the Center for Research Libraries.
