Attention Faculty and Graduate Students!


Throughout the year, the Reference Department offers FREE one-hour seminars, devised with the special needs of faculty and graduate students in mind, to help you learn new skills and find the best resources and tools for your research.  Fall 2009 Seminars are now being scheduled -- check back often for latest additions!.

Library 101 for New Graduate Students

 

Get a jump on how to use resources and services in the IU Libraries!  You will be given an overview of databases and helpful services to aid in the development of your research papers and projects.

 

It's Not All Google Map:  Online Map Resources

 

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications enable researchers to create visual representations of data showing geographic distributions with layers of historic and current informations.  This session will illustrate types of maps available online, how to access and use them, and how to integrate them into research, study, and teaching. 

WorldCat and Library Catalogs Worldwide

 

We will show how to use WorldCat to do a comprehensive search of published material, verify citations, and identify libraries that own an item.  We will also demonstrate searching individual library catalogs from around the world.


Introduction to Latin American Resources

 

This session offers an overview of the electronic databases and internet resources available for conducting humanities and social science research on Latin American topics.
