Maps providing basic political, demographic, and topographic information about countries and regions of the world.  Most are available electronically from University of Texas Map Collection website.

Countries and Regions from the State Dept. includes links to U.S. embassies abroad, background notes and major reports on individual countries.

ProQuest Statistical Insight, available to authorized IUB users, includes access to data from international governmental organizations (Index to International Statistics, IIS), 1983-present.  Statistics from such organizations as the United Nations, European Union, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the World Health Organization are available.  ET2 receives the IIS microfiche and many IGO publications are also received in print.

National Information, from the UN Division for Sustainable Development provides environmental information by country and region of the world.

OECDiLibrary is the online publications portal of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and provides online access to the organization's publications and databases.  Includes books, reports, periodicals, and statistical databases, primarily in English. The service was launched in 2000 and covers 1998 to present. IU authorization required.

ODS, the Official Document System of the United Nations, includes full text of UN parliamentary documents issued at UN headquarters in New York (1993- ), the UN Office in Geneva (1993- ), and the UN Office in Vienna (1997- ).  Official record versions of resolutions and decisions, 1946- , are also available.

Population Division [United Nations] provides population policies of individual countries as well as statistics by country on a wide variety of demographic topics.

Trade Policy Reviews from the World Trade Organization.

UNdata, comprising 32 databases (60 million records), acts as a "gateway to statistical information from databases of the UN and Member States."  Such topics as health, tourism, refugees and national accounts are covered.

Unesco Institute for Statistics Data Centre provides statistics on education, culture and communications.

U.S. Commercial Service Market Research Library includes Country Commercial Guides.

World News Connection (WNC) is an online news service with extensive array of translated and English-language news, useful in identifying what is happening in a specific country or region. Compiled from thousands of non-U.S. media sources, the information in WNC covers significant socioeconomic, political, scientific, technical, and environmental issues and events.
