Edible Books Contest Winners Announced!

On Monday, April 1st, the Herman B Wells Library hosted its annual Edible Books Contest. Students, faculty, staff and groups were all encouraged to submit a culinary interpretation of a favorite book as part of the annual international Edible Books celebration. On or around April 1st every year, there are festivals and contests at universities and libraries all over the world celebrating books as a source of both nourishment and enjoyment. Patrons were delighted to find the lobby filled with colorful sculptures as the smell of sugar wafted through the air. The tongue-in-cheek culinary creations ranged from simple and clever, to extremely intricate. Library-goers were delighted by these culinary creations and didn’t need much encouragement to cast their ballots - and were rewarded for doing so with a delicious mini cupcake from OneWorld Catering along with an “I voted!” sticker.

Over 400 Wells' visitors voted on the 24 fabulous entries. Congratulations to all of our winners:

Punniest - “Grapes of Wrath” by The Harvey Readers

Most Appetizing - “Secret Garden” by Monica Ham

Best Student Submission -“Atlas Shrugged” by Allison Reynolds

Best Use of Non-Food Items - “Catcher in the Rye” by Angela and Mike Courtney

Best Group Submission - “Great Cakespectations” by The Finer Things Club

Most Creative - “Hairy Potter” by Jen Geary

Best Overall - “Hairy Potter” by Jen Geary

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and cast votes - you made this year’s Edible Books Contest a huge success!
