Lost in Indiana?

11/01/2010

Ever wonder if other counties in Indiana have a GIS website that is as nice as the one we have in Monroe County? Check out the Indiana Geographic Information Council’s Online Map portal at: http://www.igic.org/maps/index.html. Not all counties have the plat and tax information linked, but most do offer detailed maps with roads, rivers, and other infrastructure.  Also available in many of the major cities.  Geographic information systems (GIS) or geospatial information systems are sets of tools that capture, store, analyze, manage, and present data that are linked to locations. These systems are generally used for cartography, land surveying, resouce management, urban planning, and navigation (source: Wikipedia).
