"One Book, One Bloomington and Beyond" exhibition at the Lilly Library
02/01/2010The selection for the 2010 One Book, One Bloomington and Beyond project is The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. This Pulitzer Prize–winning novel tells the story of cousins Joe Kavalier and Sam Clay just before, during and after World War II. Chabon's work deals with the history of American comic books, magic, the Holocaust, World War II, art, and homosexuality.
The Lilly will lead a book discussion of, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, on Thursday, April 8 at 4:30 in the Slocum Room at the Lilly Library.
The city of Bloomington started the One Book, One Bloomington project in 2002 in which the community was encouraged to read and discuss one book. The book that year was Ernest J. Gaines' A Lesson Before Dying. The project was so successful it was expanded in area to become One Book, One Bloomington and Beyond. The exhibition highlights comic art, Harry Houdini, and the writings of Michael Chabon. The display will continue through April.
