04/24/2009
The IU Libraries are pleased to announce the winners of
the 2009 Sam Burgess Undergraduate Student Library Research
Award.
Junior Jessica Reddick won first place and
$1,000 for her paper "Sexperts & Sexpertise: The Demands of
Cold War Era Professionals in the Bedroom."
Sophomore Erin Chapman won second place and $500
for her paper "The Dreadful Chasm”: American Recognition
and Response to the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1916 and the
Holocaust."
Both winners were recognized yesterday at a reception hosted by
the IU Libraries to honor achievements of librarians, staff, and
volunteers.
The Sam Burgess Undergraduate Library Award recognizes excellence
in undergraduate research projects by rewarding students who
incorporate extraordinary skill and creativity in the application
of the services and collections of the IU Libraries.
Winners are selected by a committee of librarians and members of
the Bloomington Faculty Council Library Committee.
Established in 2007, the award is supported by an endowment
started by an IUB librarian in memory of her late son, a
voracious and eclectic reader. Her support of this endowment also
recognizes the importance of the IU Libraries to undergraduate
education.
