Lilly Library Displays Medical Books

Faustino Anderloni's engraving from Antonio Scarpa's 18th century drawing of the nerves to the heart.
Included in the exhibit are Paracelsus's first book on surgical techniques, printed in 1536, Vesalius's 1543 anatomical work "De Humani Corporis Fabrica," William Harvey's 1628 book on the circulation of blood, and Sir Charles Bell's rare "Idea of a New Anatomy of the Brain." Benjamin Franklin's booklet advocating inoculation against smallpox is also featured.
