What Keeps Librarians Awake at Night?
05/27/2008
OCLC, the nonprofit research organization that produces and
maintains WorldCat, has a new podcast series that records
impromptu interviews in which the question, "What's keeping you
awake at night?" is asked to leaders in the library profession
who are thinking ahead, worrying about big issues, or imagining
the next big thing.
In a new podcast, Research Libraries Group (RLG) Program Officer
Merrilee Proffitt talks with Jenn Riley, Metadata Librarian in
the Digital Library Program at Indiana University, about how the
library catalog has not traditionally been an encyclopedia, but
moving forward it could act more like one, at least in the way
that it ties in with other systems to provide seamless access
between users. The interview, "Why
shouldn't the library catalog be an encyclopedia?",
is now available online.
This is the third podcast in a continuing series. Additional
interviews will be recorded and added to the Programs and
Research podcast page in the near future. Visit the OCLC Programs
and Research podcast page to hear all of the
interviews in the series.
