Winners of the Sam Burgess Award Announced
04/15/2008
The IUB Libraries are pleased to announce the winners of
the 2008 Sam Burgess Undergraduate Library Research Award.
Sophomore Elana Kelber won first place and $1,000 for her paper
"What Sells?: Examining Gender in Magazine Print Advertising in
the 1950s."
Senior Seth Libby won second place and $500 for his paper: "Judas
in History and Myth."
Both winners will be recognized Thursday at a reception hosted by
the IUB Libraries to honor achievements of librarians, staff, and
volunteers.
The Sam Burgess Undergraduate Library Award recognizes excellence
in undergraduate research projects by rewarding students who
incorporate extraordinary skill and creativity in the application
of the services and collections of the IUB Libraries.
Winners are selected by a committee of librarians and members of
the Bloomington Faculty Council Library Committee.
Established in 2007, the award is supported by an endowment
started by an IUB librarian in memory of her late son, a
voracious and eclectic reader. Her support of this endowment also
recognizes the importance of the IUB Libraries to undergraduate
education.
