Celebrate Films in October
09/24/2007
For the second consecutive year, the Indiana University
Bloomington Libraries celebrate archives and special collections
with a month-long series of events. This year's activities focus
on the importance of films and film-related collections to
teaching and research. "Reel Images: Film in Teaching and
Research" runs through October and features panels, speakers, and
film screenings. All of the activities are free and open to the
public.
The month kicks off with two events featuring Julie
Dash. An accomplished filmmaker, writer, and director
Dash is perhaps best known for her film Daughters of the
Dust, a winner at the Sundance Film Festival and the
first feature-length film by an African American
woman.
On October 3, at 4:30 p.m., Dash visits campus
to speak about the influences of her career, work, and life. The
event entitled "My Narrative: Experiences of a Filmmaker" is
being held at the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center in the Grand
Hall and Bridgewater Lounge.
October 4, at 7 p.m., a free public film
screening of The Rosa Parks Story will show at the
Buskirk-Chumley Theater. The film about the iconic civil rights
heroine was written by Dash in 2002 and stars Angela Bassett.
Dash will introduce the film.
