Sidewalk Has Settled, But Main Library Stands Strong
06/24/2003
Concrete patio slabs at the southern exterior entrance of the Main Library have settled, causing an uneven and unsafe entry to the building.
Replacing the patio will take six to eight weeks, and the southern entrance (near the parking lot) will be closed during that time.
Contrary to urban legend, the building is not sinking. Constructed in 1969, the Main Library rests safely on a 94-foot-thick layer of limestone.
