Limestone Repairs to Wells Library Begin Monday, April 16
04/13/2007
A stair tower will be built at the southwest corner of the west tower for the contractors to gain access to the first floor roof. A swing stage will also be suspended from the top of the west tower.
Contractors expect to be removing stone panels by April 20. The process of removing the stone may be noisy.
Four metered parking spaces will be fenced off to accommodate the contractor's equipment. After finals, the entire metered parking area will be closed.
The project will consist of removing the smooth border stones and replacing them with a thicker stone that is mechanically fastened to the building. All joints on the towers will be cut out, cleaned, and caulked or tuckpointed. All the mosaic stones will be inspected and repaired as needed.
In December 2006, two exterior limestone panels became loose and engineers inspected the building, constructed in 1969.
The project is expected to be completed in December 2007.
