The Art of Leadership: Birch Bayh Papers Now on Exhibit
01/30/2007
The Art of Leadership: A Legacy of
Honor: An Exhibition from the Senatorial Papers of Birch Bayh,
U.S. Senator from Indiana, 1963 to 1980 is currently on
display at the Lilly Library Main Gallery.
"The Art of Leadership" documents the many legislative
accomplishments of Birch Bayh's career in the United States
Senate from 1963 to 1980.
After chronicling Bayh's Hoosier roots, the exhibition traces
legislative work in the main areas Bayh influenced. Among
them:
· federal disaster relief
· the extension of civil rights to all Americans
· the constitutional amendments on presidential succession
and lowering the voting age to 18
· women's rights
· judicial ethics
· development of alternative fuels
The exhibition provides a glimpse into the contents of Bayh's
senatorial papers, which are a particular treasure among the
congressional papers collections.
Items on display come from these papers, richly supplemented by
photographs and artifacts generously loaned by Jerry Udell, John
Rector, Gordon Alexander, and Bob Blaemire.
"The Art of Leadership" will be on display in
the Lilly Library Main
Gallery from January 29 to May 5,
2007.
