Join a Lecture on Indiana's Ernie Pyle on October 26

10/19/2006

Join IU professor Owen Johnson for his lecture "From the Frontlines: Indiana's Ernie Pyle," which is part of our monthlong celebration of our shared history revealed through archives and special collections.

Indiana's own Ernie Pyle, the famous WWII correspondent known for his foksy writing style, was a student at Indiana University before he began his journalism career. The columns he filed from the frontlines brought the immediacy of war to millions of readers on the home front and earned him a Pulitzer Prize in 1944. Johnson, associate professor of journalism and adjunct professor of history at IU, describes how understanding Pyle's letters illuminates this famous native son.

What: "From the Frontlines: Indiana's Ernie Pyle"
Where: Monroe County Public Library Auditorium
When: Thursday, October 26, 2006, at 7 p.m.
