Find Out What You Can Learn from Your Family Tree
10/04/2006
Frank M. Hohenberger Photograph Collection
Join local and IU-affiliated genealogists as they discuss "Family Trees as Learning Tools," one of several events in our monthlong celebration of archives and special collections.
Why is genealogy important for research? What can we learn from tracing the histories of the famous and not-so-famous? Panel members will explore what can be gained from primary research materials. The discussion will not focus on how to conduct genealogical research, but why firsthand evidence is essential to interpreting history.
Panelists include Jim Madison, IU professor of history; Keith A. Erekson, IU graduate student of history; and Curt Witcher of the Allen County Public Library Genealogy Department. Lou Malcomb, Head of Government Information, Microforms & Statistical Services, will moderate the discussion.
What: Family Trees as Learning Tools
Where: Indiana University Neal-Marshall Grand Hall
When: Wednesday, October 18, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
