Connections: An Exhibition of Collaborative Design explores the collaborative efforts of bookmakers, designers, artists, printers, and publishers in producing some of the books found in the Lilly Library's collection, including French artist books, limited editions, and private press books.
Titles on display include fine press editions of The Odyssey of Homer, Moby Dick, the Holy Bible, Hamlet, and Lysistrata, with illustrations by Pablo Picasso. Especially handsome is the Philip Smith binding of Shakespeare's The Tragedie of Hamlet, Prince of Denmarke created in 1930 (pictured at left).
The exhibition was curated by Nathan Walton as part of his MFA thesis project.
Connections runs from April 10 through May 6 in the Lilly Library Lounge. The Lilly Library is open Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
