F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby is the 2006 One Book, One Bloomington and Beyond selection.
A portrait of the Jazz Age in all its decadence and excess, The Great Gatsby captured the spirit of the author's generation and earned itself a permanent place in American mythology. The novel depicts self-invented millionaire Jay Gatsby's pursuit of his now-married wartime love Daisy Buchanan, a blind quest embodying some of this country's most abiding obsessions: money, ambition, greed, and the promise of new beginnings.
Join Judith C. Brown, Assistant Professor of English, and Eugene R. Kintgen, Professor and Associate Dean, IU Graduate School, on Wednesday, April 12, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Lilly Library as they lead a discussion of The Great Gatsby. The Lilly Library will display various materials related to the book and author.
Fitzgerald's novel is part of the Wells Library Undergraduate Services Core Collection.
One Book, One Bloomington, supported by the Bloomington Area Arts Council and the Indiana Arts Commission, is designed to promote reading of great literature and unite the community through discussion of a single book. What if all of Bloomington read the same book?
