Mapping Your Thanksgiving Meal
11/21/2005
The IU Geology Library created a Thanksgiving
Maps & Posters Web page which provides links to maps
showing where the foods eaten for Thanksgiving dinner are grown
in the United States.
View the site to see maps showing which states grow the most
beans, carrots, celery, cranberries, onions, pecans, potatoes,
pumpkin, sweet potatoes, squash, turkey and wheat. There is also
a PDF
poster showing all the maps.
These maps were produced with a Geographic Information System
(GIS), which is computer hardware, software and data that
can be used to, map, store and analyze geographically referenced
information. To learn more about GIS, see the IU Libraries'
GIS
Services Web site.
