Batman and Friends Arrive at the Lilly Library
09/09/2005
"Comics as Cultural Mythology: The Michael E. Uslan Collection of Comic Books and Graphic Novels," an exhibition at the Lilly Library, displays a portion of the comic book and graphic novel collection of IU alumnus Michael Uslan. The exhibition explores the development of superheroes, including Batman and other DC Comic heroes, mythology and folklore as influences, and the role of science fiction. One section focuses on the course Uslan taught at IU in the 1970s on comic books.
Michael Uslan was the executive producer of "Batman Begins" and produced previous Batman films. He donated his collection of more than 30,000 comic books and graphic novels to the Lilly Library and loaned film posters and original sketches by comic artists for the exhibition.
"Comics as Cultural Mythology: The Michael E. Uslan Collection of Comic Books and Graphic Novels" runs from September 12 through December 17. The exhibition is free and open to the public. The Lilly Library's hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Michael Uslan will return to the IU Bloomington campus the week of September 12 for a series of events.
