The IU Geology Library recently added a Thanksgiving Maps & Posters Web page which provides links to maps showing where the foods eaten for Thanksgiving dinner are grown in the United States.
The links on the site can be used to view maps showing which states grow the most beans, carrots, celery, cranberries, onions, pecans, potatoes, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, squash, turkey and wheat.
These maps were produced with a Geographic Information System (GIS), which is computer hardware, software and data that can be used to, map, store and analyze geographically referenced information. To learn more about GIS, see the IU Libraries' GIS Services Web site.
