Libraries to Show Film Trembling Before G-D
03/22/2004
* When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22
* Where: Main Library, Room E174
The film shatters assumptions about faith, sexuality, and religious fundamentalism as intimately told by Hasidic and Orthodox Jews who are gay or lesbian and their dilemma to reconcile their passionate love of Judaism and the Divine with the drastic biblical prohibitions that forbid homosexuality.
"Trembling Before G-D" won the GLAAD Media Award for outstanding documentary and a TEDDY Award, and it was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival.
Noa Wahrman, bibliographer for Jewish Studies, will lead a discussion immediately following the screening about issues raised in the film.
The screening is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. It is sponsored by the Media Services Literacy Film Series.
