Libraries to Screen Film Children Underground

03/22/2004

IU Libraries Media Services will screen the award-winning documentary "Children Underground" (2001, 105 minutes) on Tuesday, March 30.

* When: 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 30

* Where: Main Library, Room E174

The film documents the lives of five homeless children who live in a subway station in Bucharest, Romania. Struggling to survive, the children beg on the streets, are drug addicted, and unaware of the horrors of their existence.

Nominated for an Academy Award for best documentary feature, the film also won the International Documentary Association best feature documentary and the Sundance Film Festival special jury prize.

Associate librarian Andrea Morrison will lead a discussion immediately following the screening about the issues raised in the film.

The screening is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. It is sponsored by the Media Services Literacy Film Series.
