Screening, Discussion Examine 'Blaxploitation' Films

The 2002 film by independent filmmaker Isaac Julian examines the stereotypes and political climate portrayed in 1970s "Blaxploitation" films such as "Shaft," "Superfly," and "Foxy Brown." Julian includes speakers Larry Cohen, Pam Grier, bell hooks, Samuel Jackson, Elvis Mitchell, Gordon Parks, Quentin Tarantino, and Fred Williamson. The film contains archival film footage and memorable sound tracks, as well as graphic language.
Reference and Media Librarian Monique Threatt will lead a discussion immediately following the screening to address issues raised in the film.
