Lecture Planned for the Lilly Library
02/02/2004
A lecture today at the Lilly Library features an
Arthurian hero of French prose.
* What: "Galehaut (Galeotto): The Emergence and Eclipse of a Remarkable Arthurian Hero"
* Who: Samuel Rosenberg (Department of French and Italian, IU Bloomington)
* When: 4 p.m. February 10
* Where: Lilly Library Lounge
The lecture will consider Galehaut, lord of the Distant Isles, who emerges for the first time in Arthurian literature in the French prose Lancelot of the early 13th century. He is one of the most remarkably original characters in the vast Arthurian world and the only one of tragic stature. Rosenberg is an emeritus professor of French. Recently his work has focused on Old French Lyric poetry and Arthurian prose romances. The lecture is sponsored by the Medieval Studies Institute (www.indiana.edu/~medieval/).
