Cataloging: Western European Cataloging Section, Serials Cataloging Unit

The Serials Cataloging Unit, headed by James Castrataro (, provides bibliographic access to all serial publications in all formats (print, microform, electronic, web-based, etc.) held at the Herman B Wells Library, the Bloomington campus libraries, and the following regional campuses: East, Fort Wayne, Kokomo, Northwest, South Bend, and Southeast.

As one of the select group of full membership libraries in North America participating in the CONSER/NACO Program (Cooperative Online Serials Program/Name Authority Cooperative Program), the Serials Cataloging Unit contributes original bibliographic and authority records directly to the national databases, as well as authenticates copy contributed by other libraries for national distribution. As serials inevitably change, the unit enriches existing records by supplying additional access points for new issuing bodies, title variations, and title changes, as well as relevant information about beginning or ending dates, indexes, supplements, publication patterns, etc.

The unit is also responsible for maintaining the information about shelving location and volume holdings for serial publications held at the Wells and campus libraries in Bloomington.

Questions may be directed to James Castrataro.
