Finding scholarly and scientific research
OneSearch@IU - good "all in one" search engine covering research on many topics. Limit your results to "peer-reviewed" for indepth scientific and academic research.
JSTOR - searchable full-text of historical runs of important scholarly journals in the humanities, arts, sciences, ecology, and business
Periodicals Index Online - for older studies (some of which you might be able to use as primary sources)

Foreign Broadcast Information Service Daily Reports 1941-1996 - news broadcasts from all over the world, translated for the US Government

Magazines and journals
Economist Historical Archive 1843-2003 - digital archive of The Economist, covering international news and events.
Readers Guide Full Text - A database of articles from popular U.S. and Canadian periodicals on current events, news, popular culture and many other topics.
Readers Guide Retrospective 1890-1982 - Provides access to citations from 512 of the leading United States periodicals from 1890-1982. Full text can be found either in print originals (follow IU-Link to IUCAT) or, for some magazines such as Life, in Google Books.
