1. FINDING BOOKS
a. Use WorldCat, The World’s Largest Library Catalog
Go to Advanced Search and search for subjects, e.g.:
- Visual anthropology
- Motion pictures in ethnology
- Photography in ethnology
- Video recording in ethnology
Use left-hand menu to limit results by format (Book/article/sound recording), language, or topic
- For books, click the title to open the record; look for Indiana University link. If that does not work, look under “Find a copy in a library.”
- Consider using the Book Delivery Service: click Go to IUCAT to Request Item and log in there. Deliveries are made from any library or from the Auxiliary Library Facility and held for you at the circulation desk—free!
For articles use the “Find a Copy Online” link
Get the citation: from a single item record, click Cite/Export; choose a citation style (e.g. APA); copy the citation into Word

b. Academic Search Premier (Ebsco )
Includes articles from newspapers, popular magazines, and academic journals.
- Try the same search terms as in IU WorldCat
- Limit to Scholarly (Peer-Reviewed) Journals (right-hand menu)
To save or print results From Academic Search Premier, use checkboxes to add to folder. Then:
- Go to Folder View
- Select items you wish to save
- Select the citation format you wish to use (e.g. APA)
- Click Print and copy and paste into Word
3. Getting Your Hands on the Articles
Look for the IULink button to:
- Search for an electronic version
- Search IUCAT for a print copy in one of our libraries. Look at the complete IUCAT record for the volume holdings, location and call number. (This tells you where to find the journal on the shelf.)
