This list provides names of map-making organizations in transliteration of the Cyrillic, original Cyrillic, English translation, and brief description of the map-making roles.

The order is by English alphabet of the original Cyrillic name:

General'nii Shtab Krasnoi Armii
General Staff of the Red Army
This organization started mapmaking in the late 1930's. It revised surveys done by earlier organizations with its first edition maps coming out in the early 1940's.
General'nii Shtab RKKA
General Staff of the Revolutionary Command, Red Army
This organization is the predecessor of the General Staff, Red Army. Its name can be found on maps from the mid-1930's until 1940.

Central Geodesic Headquarters
Glavnoe Upravlenie Geodezii i Kartgorafii
Central Headquarters of Geodeism and Cartography
The post-World War II name of the Central Headquarters of Geodeism and Cartography at the Coucil of National Comissars of the USSR. In the 1950's, its publishers were Sovete ministrov SSSR and later, MVD. From 1960 on, its publisher was Ministerstva geologii i okhrany nedr SSSR
