P. Semenov-Tian-Shanskii played a significant role, was approved by the tsar in 1895 and executed on the
morning of Jan 28 (Feb 9 by new style). The questionnaire consisted of 14 questions including those on

FBIS
[One big difference from Current Digest is its coverage: it contains 8 eight regions of the world, each
comprising several countries (And the types of materials included: that is, FBIS contains radio
broadcasting as well as newspapers). EE is one of those 8, and so is the Soviet Union. It started in 1941,
but it remained one publication until 1974, when it began to come out in 8 separate publications, each
covering one of the eight regions. Of course, the coverage is highly selective. For example, the issue for
June 4, 1991 (by the way, the 50th anniversary of FBIS daily report) is 92 pages long, divided into 11
sections, all of them the Soviet republics except the one "Inter-republic affairs." The number of articles
each republic contains spans from one to six. A few newspapers get translated repeatedly: for example, all
the five articles for RSFSR are from "Sovetskaia Rossiia"; three of the six articles for Ukraine come from
"Molod Ukrainy" and the rest three are from different ones. The translator is not identified, but each
article has a translator's title as well as the original title translated into English.]
