Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (ABELL)
ABELL provides references to print resources such as monographs and book chapters as well as articles we only have available in print. It specifically includes bibliographic information for monographs, book reviews, articles, dissertations and essay collections.
This database includes 19th Century British Library Newspapers. Be sure to use the “Select by Content Set” drop-down menu to select 19th Century newspapers. This database includes key British newspapers from the 19th century and is an excellent primary source of information on 19th century Britain. Users are able to search the text of over 45 newspapers as well as view entire pages and individual articles. National and regional newspapers are included as well as newspapers from Scotland, Ireland and Wales. In addition to basic and advanced search options, users are also able to conduct a “Publication Search” to search for an individual newspaper or browse for newspapers by geographic location.
C19: The Nineteenth Century Index
A growing all-inclusive bibliographic spine for 19th-century research. C19 is a one-stop finding tool covering multiple content types, providing records for more than 11 million documents ranging from books and newspapers to government documents and periodicals at the article level. The database is a collection of ten digital archives, including American and British Periodicals series, House of Commons Parliamentary Papers, Palmer's Index to The Times, and the Wellesley Index to Victorian Periodicals. Each index can be searched separately, or a comprehensive search of the entire database is also possible.
Electronic indexes to scholarly publications in world history. Use the Time Period Index under Advanced Search to focus search on the 19th century, or even individual decades.
MLA International Bibliography
The MLA Bibliography indexes material in modern languages, literature, linguistics and folklore. It contains references to scholarly research in more than 3000 journals and series, in monographs, chapters of books, working papers, dissertations, proceedings, Festschriften and bibliographies. Note that the MLA does not use 19th century as a subject term/descriptor. Use 1800-1899 instead.

Annually indexes over 400 journals, representing scholarship in a range of disciplines. The online bibliography covers journals from 1991-2003.
