HOW TO FIND INFORMATION ON AFRICA AND THE AFRICAN DIASPORA IN THE LIBRARY
1. Ask the Librarian.
2. Consult the African Studies Collection

How to Find Sources:

For Books: Search IUCAT

a) Author: Gates, Henry Louis
b) Title: Africana: the Encyclopedia of the African and African American Experience
c) Keyword: Africa and Diaspora or African and slav*, etc.

For tips on effective keyword searching, see: Boolean Operators

If you can't find what you are looking for in IUCAT, search WorldCat.
You may submit an interlibrary loan request directly from WorldCat. Keep in mind that it may take 2-4 weeks for books to arrive, whereas articles generally can be obtained faster.

For Articles: Use Indexes

a) Selected print indexes (available in the Reference Room of the Main Library)
International African Bibliography
Quarterly Index to Periodical Literature for Eastern and Southern Africa (also available online at:
http://lcweb2.loc.gov/misc/qsihtml/)

b) Selected online indexes can be found by going to the Library's "Find Information" page:
