GPS Kits

Available for Check-Out

Students, staff, and faculty affiliated with Indiana University’s Bloomington campus now may check-out GPS Kits from the East Tower 2nd Floor (ET2) Circulation Desk. (A valid IUB photo ID is required.)

These GPS Kits have been provided by the Geocaching Club for IUB students to learn about Geocaching and the use of GPS technology.

The purchase of the GPS Kits was made possible by the Geocaching Club through the support of the IUSA AID Fund.

The Garmin eTrex H GPS Kits come with a bag/case, data cable, GPS unit, Instruction Manual, lanyard, Quick Start Guide, and rechargeable batteries.

Borrowing is on a fist come/first serve basis.

The loan period for a GPS Kit is 4 days.

Kits may be renewed (in person) if not requested by another user.

We are very excited to add GPS Kits to our collections in ET2!

GPS Kit Circulation Policy and Loan Agreement

Students, staff, and faculty affiliated with Indiana University's Bloomington campus may check-out GPS Kits from the East Tower 2nd Floor (ET2) Circulation Desk.

A valid IUB photo ID is required.

GPS Kits have been provided by the Geocaching Club for Indiana University students on the Bloomington campus to learn about Geocaching, and the use of GPS technology.

Patrons will use the GPS Kits in a good and careful manner.

Patrons will, at their own expense, keep the GPS Kits in good repair, appearance, and condition (normal and reasonable wear-and-tear excepted).

Patrons will comply with all the manufacturer's requirements and recommendations respecting the GPS Kit, and with any applicable law – whether local, state, or federal – respecting the use of the GPS Kit, including, but not limited to, environmental and copyright law.

Patrons will use the GPS Kits for the purpose for which they were designed, and not for any other purpose.

Patrons will not alter, attach, or modify anything to the GPS Kit.

Checking-Out

Borrowing a GPS Kit is on a first come/first serve basis. GPS Kits may be checked out only during ET2 hours of operation. The loan period for a GPS Kit is 4 days.

Renewals

GPS Kits may be renewed if not requested by another user. Renewal of GPS Kits may only be made in person. No renewals will be accepted over the phone.

Return

GPS Kits must be returned directly to the ET2 Circulation Desk.

GPS Kits are to be returned at least 45 minutes before ET2 closes.

Never place a GPS Kit in a book drop box!

When the GPS Kit is returned, an inspection will be made to confirm the condition of the GPS Unit, and to verify all parts have been returned.

If any components are missing, the Library reserves the right to refuse acceptance until all parts are returned.

This refusal does not waive the late fee, or in any way absolve the borrower of any responsibilities.

Fines

GPS Kits returned late will incur an overdue fine of $1.20/hour. This includes just part of an hour.

Examples

1-60 minutes late $1.20 fine
61-120 minutes late $2.40 fine
121-180 minutes late $3.60 fine

Patrons not returning a GPS Kit within 14 days will be billed for the entire replacement cost of the GPS Kit, plus fine and processing fees. The replacement cost is the cost of purchasing a new replacement of similar quality (approximately $600 when originally purchased).

Repair

If a GPS Kit is not returned in good repair, appearance, and/or condition, the Patron will be billed for the actual expense of repairs, plus fines and processing fees.

Replacement

If any part(s) of a GPS Kit is damaged or missing, the Patron will be billed for the actual expense of replacement(s), plus fines and processing fees.
